l’impératrice de la nuit
– the book

L’Impératrice de la nuit reveals intimacies: first that of a friendship linking the couturier Per Spook and Madame Hélène Martini, the Empress of the Night; that of the closet of a woman for whom elegance was a rule and finally that of the intimate notebook of a widow at the head of an empire.

The haute couture outfits presented in this book were all imagined, designed and created by Per Spook for Madame Martini between 1966 and 1994. The photographs were taken by the Norwegian couturier between 2019 and 2021 with a medium format film camera.

The texts, written by Danielle Bott, journalist and former editor-in-chief for Vogue, are inspired by Hélène Martini’s personal notebooks, kept by Per Spook.
